After their long nomadic wanderings in search of a home, the Magyars avoided the fate of the Huns and other nomadic people first by the Coquest of Hungary (896), and then by the imposition of Western order. The first of these is associated with the name of Prince Árpád, the second with that of St Stephen. After the coronation with the crown sent by Pope Sylvester II at Christmas of the year 1000, St Stephen started to build up a Christian kingdom, creating a modern ecclesiastic and secular administration.
